The south lane of 15th Avenue between Agate Street and the Bowerman Building on the north side of Hayward field will remain closed until after the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials late this month, according to the University of Oregon Department of Public Safety.

The south lane was partially closed May 15 to allow room for the construction of temporary bleachers on the north end of the Hayward Field complex. The street was originally scheduled to reopen June 1, but a decision was made to maintain the closure as a precaution to keep vehicles away from the bleacher structures.

The one-lane closure will continue until June 16, then the entire street will be closed for UO commencement on June 18 and the Olympic Trials, which run from June 21 through July 1.

During the partial closure, vehicles are be able to turn west from Agate Street onto 15th Avenue, but must exit to University Street. Pedestrians are expected to avoid the fenced area and the street, and use the sidewalk on the north side of 15th Avenue.

The traffic restriction is marked with signs on the street, and security staff will be on-scene to advise and redirect motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
