Cinema Studies and Bijou present movies, lecture
University of Oregon Cinema Studies is partnering with the Bijou Art Cinemas to present “The Border Crossing Series,” the second offering in a series called Film on Film.
The event – free and open to the public – features movies created and screened in 16- and 35-milimeter film and a speaker in the cinema program’s Scholar Viewpoint series.
The Bijou, 492 E. 13th Ave., will screen the 1989 film, “A City of Sadness,” directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsein, at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 3. The film will be introduced by Yale University Professor Dudley Andrew, who helped bring the movie to Eugene.
Andrew will also present his talk, “Off the Grid, Into the Land: Cinema as Geology,” during the scholar series at 2 p.m. Friday, May 4 in Lawrence 115 on the UO campus.
The second screening will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 18 at UO’s Prince Lucien Campbell Hall 180. This double feature includes the 1958 film, “Touch of Evil,” directed by Orson Welles, and the 1977 animated film, “Flashpoint,” directed by Ernie Schmidt.
