Club de Arte para Mamas featured in NYT article

A UO program that helps bring art to Spanish-speaking women was featured in a recent story in The New York Times.

The story quotes Lisa Abia-Smith, the education director at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, talking about the importance of reaching out to all members of the university and local community. The museum’s program, Mom’s Art Club or Club de Arte para Mamás, offers twice-weekly art workshops and provides free child care and activities to encourage mothers to take part.

“To succeed in the 21st century, a museum needs to be responsive to its audience and align its programs to the audience’s needs, rather than sit in a conference room and hypothesize about what the visitor needs,” Abia-Smith told the newspaper.
