Governor nominates candidate for staff trustee on UO board

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has announced the selection of Jimmy Murray, a UO library technician, as her nominee to the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon.

Murray has been with the university since 2004, serving in a variety of positions with UO Libraries.

Currently working in the Allan Price Science Commons and Research Library, Murray has also served as one of three classified staff members of the University Senate since fall 2013 and has served on the Senate Executive Committee.

“I am honored by the governor’s nomination for this amazing opportunity and responsibility,” Murray said.

Adriene Lim, dean of libraries and Philip H. Knight Chair, personally encouraged Murray to apply for the position.

Murray’s nomination must be confirmed by the Oregon Senate, which is scheduled to consider the matter April 26.

The governor’s office has delayed a faculty nomination until late April or early May so it is able to conclude its decision-making in the context of hundreds of such appointments during any given cycle.

The nomination will then go to the Senate for approval.
