Grad School issues call for student forum nominations

The Graduate School is now accepting proposals for its sixth annual Graduate Student Forum, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Ford Alumni Center.

Last year’s event attracted student presentations on everything from power optimization for tomorrow’s supercomputers to an examination of an urban revitalization campaign to the study of gene defects in microscopic nematodes.

This one-day event, which highlights the research and creative expressions of UO graduate students, is expected to draw more than 150 students from 50-plus disciplines. Awards of up to $1,000 will be presented to winning poster presenters and panelists, which are intended to support student professional development efforts

“The Graduate Student Forum provides an excellent opportunity for students to share their work and serves as a valuable professional development experience as well,” said Andy Berglund, interim dean of the Graduate School. “Students have the opportunity to engage in an interdisciplinary intellectual exchange with other graduate students, and it’s no surprise that internship and career opportunities often arise from the interaction and networking that occurs with judges and members of the audience.”

UO graduate students can participate in the forum by proposing a coordinated panel session, an individual paper, a creative work or a poster presentation. With the addition of even more cash prizes for panel presenters, this year’s forum promises to be bigger than ever.
