HR reminds officers of administration about updated policies

The Office of Human Resources is reminding the campus community that officer of administration employment policies approved earlier this year established an expectation of continuous employment for all officers of administration, known as OAs. Under the new policies, the university no longer issues year-to-year contracts for OAs.

Nancy Resnick, the chief human resources officer, says the policies established employment policies and procedures for the unique circumstances of OAs, something OAs had asked for from the university.

The new policies preserve the previous provisions covering sick leave and vacation accruals, protection of personnel records, library privileges and other employment issues.

Some of the additional changes include:

  • Strengthening of the OA grievance policy.
  • The creation of clear procedures for progressive discipline that are grounded in national best practices.
  • A requirement that HR be involved before initiating layoffs.
  • Establishing a re-employment pool.
  • The creation of incentives for units across campus to hire from that re-employment pool.
  • Sick leave reinstatements if an employee returns to the university within two years.
  • Eliminating the six-month waiting period for vacation use.

Complete details of the new policies and related enhancements are available on the Human Resources website.
