University of Oregon scholars are featured in the news as experts or by offering their opinions frequently. In case you missed some of these mentions, Around the O highlights some of the stories featuring UO faculty, staff, administrators and students in our a special section called In the News. Around the O will also regularly round up some of the top media mentions.
Research by earth science professors Amanda Thomas and Alan Remple and postdoctoral fellow Quentin Bletery appeared in many science media outlets, including Cosmos Magazine, ScienceDaily, International Business Times, Daily Express UK and KLCC. News of the paper was originally posted on EurekaAlert!
Here are some more of the highlights of the UO in the news in the last few weeks:
- UO psychologist Elliot Berkman provided expert commentary for a story on BBC.com.
- Michael Copperman, senior instructor of English, was interviewed on Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Think Out Loud about his memoir “Teacher: Two Years in the Delta.”
- Special education professor Jeffrey Sprague wrote about the “Trump effect” and how it could increase bullying in schools. The story originally appeared on the academic media site The Conversation and was picked up by other outlets including the Huffington Post and San Diego Jewish World.
- Hector Tobar, assistant professor of journalism, wrote an op-ed for The New York Times called “The Spanish Lesson I Never Got at School.”
- Mary Wood, professor of law at the UO, talked to BillMoyers.com about a federal ruling that could provide an avenue for climate change via the courts.
- Lisa Gilman, professor of English and folklore, was interviewed on KLCC about her new book, “My Music My War: The Listening Habits of U.S. Troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
- Marketing professor T. Bettina Cornwell and Jeffrey Xie, a Ph.D. candidate in marketing, wrote a commentary for The Conversation about the leadership of political candidates. The Associated Press and Business Insider also picked up the commentary.
- Geographer Peter Walker also wrote a commentary for The Conversation called “Why the court ‘victory’ for Malheur militants was anything but.”
