Nationally known speaker Vijay Prashad to visit UO

The widely known public intellectual and Trinity College professor Vijay Prashad will give a public talk at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, in Room 282 Lillis Hall.

Prashad has written widely on U.S. policy in the Middle East and will speak on militarism, the war on drugs and ISIS. His talk is titled “Mexican Drug Gangs, ISIS and other Maladies of the Global South.”

Prashad is director of international studies at Trinity College and the author of 20 books, most recently the forthcoming “Death of a Nation and the Future of the Arab Revolution” and an earlier work, “The Poorer Nations: A Possible History of the Global South.”

He is a weekly columnist for al-Araby, al-Jadeed, Birgün and AlterNet, as well as a fortnightly columnist for Frontline and a regular contributor to The Hindu.
