New attorney arrives to bolster the UO general counsel's office

A new face will appear on the team representing the University of Oregon in legal matters with the hiring of Jessica Price as assistant general counsel.

Jessica Price The Harvard Law and Yale graduate joins the office Sept. 28, after spending two years in judicial clerkships, six years in civil rights litigation and, most recently, time in the University of California, Los Angeles Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as interim Title IX coordinator.

“Jessica brings a great deal of important experience to the table, as the Office of the General Counsel addresses a wide variety of legal issues and navigates some challenging waters,” said Kevin Reed, vice president and general counsel. “Her skill set is a great complement to our team of attorneys and specialists, and I anticipate Jessica being a tremendous resource for the campus community.”

In her Title IX role at UCLA, Price directed the university’s efforts to stop, prevent and remedy sexual violence and sexual harassment, responding to more than 300 reports affecting the campus community. In a related role as special assistant to the vice chancellor and chair of the Sexual Violence/Sexual Harassment Appeal Body, she developed and implemented policies for student appeals while recruiting and training more than a dozen faculty and staff panelists.

In nearly six years as a staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California, Price litigated class-action disability rights cases and led a team of attorneys in a successful statewide education case for English-learner children.
