New 'Mighty Oregon' T-shirts raise money for marching band

The Duck Store is marking the 100th anniversary of the “Mighty Oregon” fight song with the release of three limited-edition T-shirts inspired by Oregon’s iconic fight song.

Each T-shirt will be available at all Duck Store locations for $10, with $1 donated to the Oregon Athletic Bands. The “Mighty Oregon” shirts are the next evolution of the Spirit Tee — an annual slogan T-shirt fundraiser that raised nearly $200,000 for the Oregon Athletic Bands between 2003 and 2015.

The first “Mighty Oregon” shirt features the Oregon Duck and the fight song lyrics set in the shape of the state of Oregon. Two additional original designs will be released during the 2016 football season.

The school’s fight song was first performed March 4, 1916. It was written by the band’s first salaried director, Albert Perfect, in collaboration with UO student Dewitt Gilbert. While it has undergone a few changes in the past 100 years, “Mighty Oregon” continues to be the UO’s anthem.
