O Heroes to host "Hero For a Day" event Sunday

The O Heroes program, along with the A Family for Every Child organization, will give foster children and local kids ages 3-18 a chance to be a "Hero for a Day" on Sunday afternoon at the Moshofsky Center.

The event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free for all foster children and is also open to the public for a $50 donation per child, which will go to the A Family for Every Child organization, which helps place foster children and support foster families in Eugene and Lane County.

A group of 40+ Oregon student-athletes from many different sports will guide children though a variety of activities.

The event is themed "Everyday Heroes" and will have members of the Eugene fire department and police department present with vehicles and equipment. Oregon student-athletes will have sport specific drills and stations while a number of community groups will have activities as well.

The Science Factory will conduct an interactive windtunnel experiment, Cabela's will be on hand to teach fishing casting course, the Eugene Emeralds and mascot Sluggo will host a bounce house obstacle course and members of the Portland Superheroes Coalition will be there in full costume.

Finally, a Volkswagen bus that's been retrofitted into a photo booth will be available to capture the moment.

Food will be provided by Togo's and Dutch Bros will have a hot chocolate station.

Along with O Heroes volunteers, members of the Order of the O (former student-athletes) will help out.

Donations for the "Hero For a Day" event can be made to the A Family for Every Child organization up to and during the event.

About A Family for Every Child
A Family For Every Child, a nonprofit organization, began with Christy Obie-Barrett and dozens of dedicated, passionate volunteers. Founded in 2006, AFFEC developed into an organization focused on finding permanent and loving adoptive homes for waiting Foster children. Over the last 5 years we have developed 10 plus programs that assist special-needs/challenging-to-place foster children in finding their own Forever Families.
