The Division of Undergraduate Studies is looking for outstanding freshmen and sophomores who should be invited to attend the Spring Distinguished Scholarships Information Session.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 26, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Knight Library Browsing Room. It will provide information on the Goldwater, Hollings, Truman, Boren, Rangel, RiSE and Udall scholarships, distinguished national and international awards that are highly competitive and require extensive preparation.

Josh Snodgrass, associate vice provost for undergraduate studies, said the preparation, which includes seeking relevant experiences and working closely with faculty mentors, must begin as early as the freshman or sophomore year.

“UO has a long history of its students receiving distinguished scholarships, but there is tremendous potential for growth,” Snodgrass said. “We need faculty to help us find these gems among our student body so we can help them shine and give them access to these incredible educational opportunities around the world.”

The session, which will include brief presentations by the campus representative of each of the scholarships, will give advice on applying for distinguished scholarships, meeting important deadlines and locating resources for assistance.

Faculty and staff who know of exceptional freshmen and sophomores who may benefit from attending this event and learning about these opportunities are encouraged to share this information directly with students.
