Public forums on presidential search to be held in November

A series of public forums designed to solicit input from an array of university constituents to inform the presidential search will be held in November.

“These public forums are a way for stakeholders and constituent groups to share with the committee thoughts about key characteristics, experiences and skills the next president should have,” said Connie Ballmer, university trustee and chair of the search committee. “In addition, they provide an opportunity for people to make direct nominations and learn about the process.”

Events will be held in Eugene and Portland, to provide multiple opportunities for on-campus and off-campus groups. They are:

  • A student forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, in the Gumwood Room in the EMU.
  • A faculty and staff forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Walnut Room in the EMU.
  • A Eugene area community forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 10, in the Browsing Room in the Knight Library.
  • A Portland area community forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the White Stag Building, 70 NW Couch St.

“This is an amazing time for the University of Oregon,” added Ballmer. “The search committee feels the passion and enthusiasm that surrounds this search, and we are eager to hear from everyone as we begin to define the kind of person we are looking for to be the next president.”

In addition to these listening sessions, the search committee has established an online survey for individuals who wish to share thoughts on key characteristics desired in a new president, and those key challenges a new president at the UO may face. Individuals can take the survey at this link. Also, those wishing to provide ideas or thoughts but cannot attend the forums can email PresSearch@uoregon.edu.
