Schafermeyer named director of International Student and Scholar Services

Abe Schafermeyer has been appointed director – on a permanent basis – of the International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) unit in the University of Oregon's Office of International Affairs.

Schafermeyer has been in the position on an interim basis since January 2012, after serving as Associate Director and in other roles since joining ISSS in 2002.

Vice Provost for International Affairs Dennis Galvan described Schafermeyer

as "a gifted and empathetic advisor to international students" with particular expertise in visa and immigration issues and as a leader in advancing the UO's global agenda.

Schafermeyer, who is originally from New Hampshire, received his master's degree in student affairs from Western Washington University. He has lived in Chile and Colombia, and has travelled extensively in Latin America, Europe and Oceania.

He enjoys biking with his family when not in the office helping international students and scholars.
