Suicide Prevention Team and UCTC offer training sessions

In an effort to reduce suicide risks and maintain a safe and healthy campus environment, the UO’s Suicide Prevention Team and the University Counseling and Testing Center will lead a series of trainings for faculty and staff throughout the year.

A suicide prevention training session will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. in Room 253 Straub Hall. Pre-registration is required, as there are a limited number of seats available. Click here to register.

At the sessions, faculty and staff will be trained to recognize suicide warning signs and identify at-risk students, while also learning how to intervene effectively and direct students toward appropriate resources that can give them the help they need.

Other training sessions have been scheduled for winter and spring terms: Wednesday, Feb. 3; Tuesday, March 15; Wednesday, April 27; and Tuesday, June 7. Locations and times will be announced closer to the date of the training.

Additionally, the Suicide Prevention Team leads scheduled one- or two-hour departmental trainings for eight or more interested participants. The one-hour trainings focus on recognizing the warning signs and campus resources, while the two-hour session emphasizes communication and intervention skills.
