University issues reminder to be aware of safety procedures

The UO provides an array of safety and preparedness resources and recently issued a reminder to the campus community urging people to be familiar with safety procedures.

Safety information for staff and employees is available in several locations online (see below). The Office of the Dean of Students also provides information on how to assist students who are distressed or need other help. For more information, see https://dos.uoregon.edu/assisting-students-concern.

Chief Resilience Officer Andre LeDuc and Chief Human Resources Officer Nancy Resnick recently sent the following message to campus about available resources:

Dear Campus Community,

Each employee at the university has an important role in creating and maintaining a safe environment.

Our many buildings, spaces, and programs have complex, critical, and highly specific safety demands and regulations: classrooms, laboratories, libraries, museums, offices, residence and dining halls, and event spaces, whether on the 300-acre campus in Eugene, the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston, UO in Portland, or Pine Mountain Observatory in Bend.

We all must know our responsibilities as employees to uphold obligations to local, state and federal authorities. Please take time to educate yourself about campus safety and preparedness resources, including:

If you learn about a safety issue, please report it immediately to a supervisor or a campus safety official so action can be taken to resolve the problem. You can report safety concerns online.

For more information, please contact the UO safety representative, Jeremy Chambers, environmental specialist in Environmental Health and Safety (541-346-2865, jchamber@uoregon.edu).

To report an employee injury, contact the UO Office of Risk Management at 541-346-8316.

If you have questions about emergency preparedness or would like to schedule a preparedness training for your department or building, please contact the Emergency Management Program at uoem@uoregon.edu or 541-346-8070.

Assuring a safe and healthy learning and research environment takes effort and dedication from everyone at the UO. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Andre LeDuc, Chief Resilience Officer-Associate Vice President for Safety and Risk Service
Nancy Resnick, Chief Human Resources Officer
