UO art exhibit featured in local write-up

The newest exhibit at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art – which focuses on views of race, ethnicity and skin color – has been featured in The Register-Guard.

Reed College professor Geraldine Ondrizek’s “Shades of White” was the center of an article that appeared in the Thursday, Sept. 4, edition of the paper. “Shades of White” scrutinizes American ideas of racial identity and the discrimination that so often comes along with them.

The exhibit is made of suspended boxes with silk backings. While visitors walk around them, different angles will reveal different combinations of color.

“Just as no two silks come out of the dye the same, so there are no two human beings who are exactly the same,” Ondrizek said.

The exhibit will be launched at a reception on Friday, Sept. 5, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will run until Dec. 14.
