UO Chamber Choir takes second place at international competition

The UO Chamber Choir took second place in the Marktoberfest International Chamber Choir Competition following two days of performance.

The choir also was recognized for the best interpretation of a compulsory work performed by all participants in the competition, “Ergebung,” a German-language piece by Hugo Wolf. UO singers topped two German choirs for the honor.

Also, judges ranked the UO among 15 choirs at Achievement Level 1, which is given for excellent performance at the international level.

The choir is directed by Sharon J. Paul, professor of music and head of the UO’s Vocal and Choral Studies area. Paul was recently recognized with a 2014-15 UO Fund for Faculty Excellence award.
