UO museums offer free admission for Smithsonian event

The UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History and Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art are participating in the annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live event and offering free admission Sept. 27.

Anyone can attend and visitors should print the free pass allowing admission for two on the Smithsonian Magazine website.

The MNCH will launch a year-long scavenger hunt, MUSE Clues, to engage people in the community by getting them to visit all 16 Lane county museums. MUSE, the Museums of Springfield and Eugene, is comprised of art museums, cultural and science centers and historical sites.

“It’s an event helping MUSE to be more known to the public,” said Kristin Strommer, communications and marketing specialist at the museum.

A downloadable scavenger hunt booklet will give participants clues that will lead them to all 16 museums. People who complete the scavenger hunt are eligible for prizes at next year’s Smithsonian Magazine event, when the winners will be announced.

“Lane county has diverse museums and we want to ban together to use rich resources that the community offers,” Strommer said.
