UO radio stations file changes with FCC

The governance transition at the University of Oregon on July 1 meant a change for the university’s radio stations.

The licenses for the UO’s radio stations – KWVA, KWAX and its sister stations – had to be updated with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The FCC regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable, and maintains all license records.

The licenses were updated to reflect the correct name of the legal entity that owns UO property, which is now the Board of Trustees of the University of Oregon.

Over the next several weeks, listeners may hear public service announcements about changes in the license names for the stations. The change does not impact operations or programming for the stations.

KWVA is both a voice for students and a place for them to gain broadcast, production and operation experience in a hands-on broadcast facility. The primary format is musical, but KWVA also plays news every weekday morning and evening and talk shows almost every day.

KWAX is a classical radio station boasting an impressive collection of more than 10,000 compact discs and is one of the few stations in the world with a vinyl collection of more than 13,000 records.
