Wisconsin’s Woo to join UO as vice provost
Melissa Woo, who serves currently as director of information technology services at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, has been hired as the University of Oregon’s new vice provost for information services and chief information officer.
Woo will begin work at the UO Sept. 3.
Woo was hired following a commissioned external review of UO’s Information Technology organization and services. The review process involved an internal coordinating group of administrators, faculty and information technology staff, as well as an external team of experts from universities across the nation.
Woo received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California-Berkeley and her doctorate in biophysics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Like the UO, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is a public research university, and both schools face similar challenges.
At the Milwaukee campus, Woo provides information technology leadership and oversight. Her department maintains campus-wide email and student information services, data center infrastructure and operations, identity and access management, system administration, networking and telecommunications.
