UO College of Education partners with state department to serve disabled in Bangladesh

The University of Oregon College of Education has been selected to participate in a U.S. Department of State sponsored Professional Fellows EMPOWER Program, administered by Mobility International USA. This two-way international exchange program aims to expand the capacity of organizations in the U.S. and abroad to promote inclusive communities and advance the rights of persons with disabilities around the world.

The COE’s Family and Human Services program and an outreach unit, Early Childhood CARES, have partnered with two Bangladesh-based organizations, Bangladesh Protibandhi Kallyan Somity and BRAC Pre Primary School in Islampur, to implement a long-term project to promote disability inclusion in mainstream education.

Professor Dan Close was scheduled to travel to Bangladesh from Aug. 10-21 to visit with partnering organizations and gain an understanding of disability issues and inclusion in their communities, and lay the foundation for a collaborative project and an ongoing partnership.
