Amtrak offering rides home for Thanksgiving

In a nod to the home-for-the-holiday needs of University of Oregon students, Amtrak has announced it will offer additional Cascades Thruway Motorcoach service from the UO campus to Portland's Union Station on Wednesday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 25.

The buses will stop on campus at 1320 East 15th Avenue, across from the Student Recreation Center.

Most of the Wednesday and Sunday buses – two of the busiest travel days of the Thanksgiving weekend – will also serve Salem and Albany. Train connections are available at Portland.

On Wednesday, buses will depart the campus at 7 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 10:35 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 1:20 p.m., 2:35 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. Those departing at 1:20 p.m. and 2:35 p.m. will travel non-stop to Portland after stopping first at the Eugene Amtrak station.

On Sunday, buses will arrive on campus at 2:10 p.m., 6:15 p.m., 7:25 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 8:40 p.m., 10:10 p.m. and 10:40 p.m., and at 2 a.m. on Monday.

Regular, one-way Amtrak bus fares are available between the UO and Albany ($14); the university and Salem ($17); and between the university and Portland ($27). Reservations are required.

Amtrak Thruway holiday buses and daily Thruway service are offered at the campus in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Transportation.

One-way Amtrak Cascades train fares start as low as $53 between Eugene and Seattle. Regular Amtrak Cascades train service continues to operate at the Amtrak station in Eugene at 433 Willamette Street.
