Bike Commute Challenge returns in September

Bikers, start your pedaling!

The UO community is invited to join team “University of Oregon,” which will once again challenge OSU when the Bike Commute Challenge returns in September.

During the Challenge, teams log their bike trips throughout the month. Workplaces are ranked by the percentage of commutes achieved by bike and in October, winning companies are announced and there is a big After Party.

To respond, visit our team profile page. You can join and help the UO top an entry from the Beavers. On the contest’s registration page, new enrollees will be asked information about their commute habits and organizational affiliation. Under “your team,” UO employees should type “University of Oregon.”

New team members can log their bike commuting mile retroactively for the first few days of the month.

The Portland-based Bicycle Transportation Alliance – a nonprofit organization that has promoted bicycling in Oregon and southwest Washington since 1990 – will tally all bike trips at the end of the month and rank workplaces in size categories by the percentage of commutes by bike, taking into account the total number of employees and their overall commuting trips for the month.

The Challenge offers more than a dozen categories for businesses and nonprofits, public agencies and bike shops in sizes ranging from a single employee to 500 or more.
