Power test brings temporary outages Aug. 28 to Aug. 30

August 20, 2012

The University of Oregon will experience campus-wide intermittent power outages, lasting from several seconds to several minutes, from Tuesday, Aug. 28 through Thursday, Aug. 30, from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.

The purpose of the outages is to connect the new co-generation system to the utility grid, and to verify proper operation and coordination of all equipment. In order to ensure that all systems perform as anticipated, it is vital to test every aspect of the system as new equipment is installed and software programs are updated.

The electrical shutdown will affect all campus facilities except those few that receive their power directly from the Eugene Water and Electric Board (see list below).

The outages are expected to impact various systems across campus. Egress lighting will experience intermittent outages. Elevators will be out of operation beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday and will resume service between 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. each day. Telephones that have data capabilities will be affected, but should be working once testing is completed. All electronic equipment should be turned off prior to shutdown each night.

For questions, please contact Campus Operations at electric@uoregon.edu, or call the Campus Operations help desk at 346-2319.
