The University of Oregon’s ChamberMusic@Beall series will welcome the well-known Miró Quartet, which will perform two works by Schubert. In addition, the UO’s Suzuki Strings Program will offer a free concert at the Holiday Market at the Lane County Fairgrounds.

The acclaimed Oregon String Quartet continues its ambitious performance cycle of all 17 of Beethoven's string quartets. Repertoire features Quartet in C Minor, Op. 18, No. 4 from Beethoven's early period, and Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 127 from his late period. UO Honors Jazz Combos Concert

The UO dance department’s Dance Africa program—celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012—will host a celebration of the culture, dance, song, and music of West Africa. Audience members are invited to a free pre-concert “Musical Insights” talk at 2:10 p.m., delivered by UO graduate student Helena Kopchick Spencer. Named for the Spanish artist Joan Miró, whose surrealist works drew from the realm of memory and imaginative fantasy, this quartet captivates audiences and critics with its startling intensity, fresh perspective, and mature approach. One of America's highest profile chamber groups, the Miró was formed at Oberlin College in 1995, won the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award in 2000, and in 2005 became the first ensemble ever to be awarded the coveted Avery Fisher Career Grant. The quartet's UO concert will include two pieces by Franz Schubert, String Quartet in G Major D. 887 and String Quartet in D Minor, "Death and The Maiden" D. 810.
