UO hosts Oct. 30 presentation on patenting in the innovation ecosystem

A two-part presentation on patent basics and related strategies for researchers will be held at the University of Oregon on Oct. 30 in the EMU River Rooms.

The sessions, presented by the UO's Innovation Partnership Services and the Klarquist Sparkman intellectual property law firm, are titled, “Patenting in the New Innovation Ecosystem.” They are offered for faculty, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students as part of Celebrate Oregon Research month.

The first presentation, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., is a primer on patents intended for those with little knowledge of the patent process, but who want to know why, when and how patents are used in the Innovation Ecosystem.

The second presentation, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., will continue on more advanced patent topics. It will focus on Prior Art scope under the recently enacted America Invents Act, and strategies for research academics to navigate.

A catered lunch will be offered during the break between the two sessions.

The UO's Innovation Partnership Services – formerly known as Technology Transfer Services – works to accelerate the adoption of innovations derived from UO research and education. Its partners include innovators, the public and industry.

The presentations and lunch are free and open to the UO community, but reservations are requested due to space limitation. RSVP to Evey Lennon at evey@uoregon.edu or 541-346-3176 by Friday, Oct. 25.
