Chris Hendon receives NSF Career Award

Chris Hendon, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry, has received a National Science Foundation (CAREER) award, which is the organization's most prestigious award for up-and-coming researchers in science and engineering. Hendon’s research proposal will receive $571,960 in funding to study how to convert energy provided by the sun into chemical reactions that reduce CO2.

Thien Huu Nguyen  receives NSF Career Award

Thien Huu Nguyen, assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Computer Science, has received a National Science Foundation (CAREER) award, which is the organization's most prestigious award for up-and-coming researchers in science and engineering. Nguyen’s research proposal will receive $582,177 in funding to develop state-of-the-art models, data sets and software to foster research and applications for multilingual natural language processing and artificial intelligence.

Alai Reyes-Santos named to National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine planning committee

Alai Reyes-Santos, a professor of practice in the School of Law and associate director of the Just Futures Institute for Racial and Climate Justice, is one of 13 scholars selected from a nationwide nomination process to contribute to the planning and execution of a multiday workshop titled, “Integrating the Human Sciences to Scale Societal Responses to Environmental Change.”

Mat Johnson named to the longlist for the 2023 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction

Mat Johnson, Philip H. Knight Chair and professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of English, has been selected as one of the top 10 picks for the 2023 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction. The PEN/Faulkner Award is considered America's most prestigious peer-juried literary prize, and Johnson's novel, "Invisible Things," earned him the recognition. Johnson is also serving as a judge for 2023 National Books Awards.

Carl Brozek wins 1st prize at Dream Chemistry Award competition

Carl Brozek, an assistant professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has won first prize at the International Dream Chemistry Award competition. The competition is based on the presentation of a new research direction.

Thomas Giachetti receives NSF Career Award

Thomas Giachetti, an associate professor of volcanology in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences, has received a National Science Foundation (CAREER) award, which is the organization's most prestigious award for up-and-coming researchers in science and engineering. Giachetti's research proposal will receive $752,726 in funding.

Raghuveer Parthasarathy, Alec and Kay Keith Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Physics, has been named a 2022 fellow by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, joining 508 other newly elected members whose work has distinguished them in the science community and beyond.
