Book club planned Deconstructing Whiteness Working Group

The Deconstructing Whiteness Working Group will read and discuss Reni Eddo-Lodge's book “Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race” for winter term.

The book explores topics from eradicated Black history to the political purpose of white dominance, and from whitewashed feminism to the inextricable link between class and race. Attendees will have the opportunity to reflect on their own internalized racialized experiences and ways to recognize and challenge white supremacy, from personal behaviors and beliefs to systems of oppression more broadly.

The book club will be limited to 12 participants and will run for nine weeks. Meetings will be held via Zoom on Thursdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. starting Jan. 13 and ending on March 10.

Paper books will be made available in advance for the first group meeting, with funding provided by the University of Oregon's Division of Equity and Inclusion. To request alternative text formats, contact Abby Rotholz at arotholz@uoregon.edu or Jen Mirabile at mirabile@uoregon.edu.
