Bring unwanted prescriptions to 'Check the Ex' on May 4

Expired and unwanted prescription drugs and household medications will be accepted at a take-back event Friday, May 4, at the Erb Memorial Union’s Fishbowl Terrace from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Organized by the University of Oregon’s Office of the Dean of Students, “Check the Ex” provides convenient, safe and secure disposal of unused drugs.

The following items will be accepted:

  • Prescription medications
  • Over-the-counter medications (such as cough and cold medications)
  • Vitamins
  • Drug samples
  • Pet medications
  • Ointments and lotions
  • Liquid medications in leak-proof containers

Some items are not allowed. These include:

  • Loose pills (pills must be in a closed container or sealed bag)
  • Needles
  • Thermometers
  • Bloody or infectious waste
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Aerosol cans
  • Inhalers

The event is intended for household and personal medication disposal. For disposing of medications throughout the year, a prescription drop box is also located inside University Health Center.
