Collective bargaining: Updates on employee union negotiations

The University of Oregon is in active negotiations with employee unions to reach new collective bargaining agreements. The following updates are offered to keep the campus community informed:

Service Employee International Union: SEIU members are scheduled to vote on ratification of the tentative agreement reached with Oregon’s seven public universities later this month. The new contract is expected to be implemented around Nov. 1.

Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation: The university and the GTFF mediated again on Oct. 8. No agreement was reached, but the parties are continuing to negotiate. The next mediation session is scheduled for Oct. 18.

Both parties are making preparations should the 30-day cooling-off period end without a contract settlement. The GTFF has scheduled a strike vote for the week of Oct. 14. The university is working with its leadership to plan for academic and research continuity should a strike occur. The first day the union can lawfully strike following the cooling-off period is Nov. 3.

The human resources website provides updates on negotiations, including the details of the university’s latest offer, and administrative resources for continuity planning.

United Academics: Bargaining with United Academics opens in January 2020.

University of Oregon Police Association: Bargaining with UOPA opens in January 2020.
