COMING ATTRACTIONS: UO graduate composer, Native American law professor head upcoming events

Events coming soon to campus include lectures by various guest speakers, a concert by a musical group from Tijuana and a Thanksgiving weekend open house at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

  • UO graduate composer Jacob Walls will present a concert of 10 new works for 44 musicians at 8 p.m. Nov. 19 in Beall Hall. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. Please contact Jacob Walls for more information at 503-707-2713.
  • Robert Anderson, professor of law and director of the Native American Law Center at the University of Washington, will present a lecture called, “A Problem Prone Promise: Recurring Issues in Fulfilling the Federal Trust Responsibility to Indian Nations,” on Nov. 21.   • J. Andrew Taylor, Ph.D., will present a lecture called “Aerobic Exercise for Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury: Circumventing the Lesion” from 11 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Nov. 22 in Room 132 of Lillis Business Complex.
  • Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich + Fussible, a Grammy-nominated musical group from Tijuana, Mexico, will be in Eugene Nov. 22-23 to screen their documentary film and perform. The UO College of Education’s Department of Education Studies is sponsoring the event with other organizations at the university. The documentary “Tijuana: Sonidos del Nortec,” will be shown at 6 p.m. Nov. 22 in Room 124 of the Global Scholars Hall; it is free and open to the public. The concert will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 23 at the McDonald Theatre. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
  • Jeff Duncan-Andrade will present a lecture, “Note to Educators: Hope Required When Growing Roses in Concrete,” as part of the yearlong “vulnerable series” of the Oregon Humanities Center’s Cressman Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 25 in 180 PLC. Duncan-Andrade, Ph.D., is the associate professor of Raza Studies and Education at San Francisco State University and director of the Educational Equity Initiative at the Institute for Sustainable Economic, Educational and Environmental Design.   • An open house event will be held at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art over Thanksgiving weekend. There will be free admission at the museum from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 1. Free parking is available behind the museum. A variety of displays will include “National Geographic Greatest Photographs of the American West,” “Art of Traditional Japanese Theater,” a three-part video installation called “From Last Century,” and more.
