COMING WEEK: UO attractions include a lecture, dance and music performances

Other events this week include music and dance performances and an exhibition at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.

LECTURES

  • On Friday, April 18, a collaborative conference will be held for graduate and undergraduate students entitled, “Academia/Activism: Reimagining Education Without Gender Discrimination.” The lecture is part of a series of events focused on sexual violence and human rights as part of the 2014 Lorwin Lectureship on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties. EXHIBITIONS

DANCE

  • On Friday, April 18 and Saturday, April 19, the UO Repertory Dance Company will perform at their annual concert. Performances will be held in the Dougherty Dance Theatre on the third floor of the Gerlinger Annex; the show start time for both Friday and Saturday shows is 8 p.m. Tickets will be $10 for general admission, $5 for students and seniors; tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, (541) 346-4363, tickets.uoregon.edu.

MUSIC

  • On Monday, April 21, UO Jazz Faculty will perform a concert, “Annual Duke Ellington Birthday Bash,” at 7 p.m. in Beall Concert Hall of the Frohnmayer Music Building. The concert is part of the UO’s April 2014 celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Tickets will be $7 for general admission and $5 for students and seniors; tickets are available at the door or in advance from the UO Ticket Office, (541) 346-4363.
  • On Monday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m., the Tai Hei Ensemble will perform in Aasen-Hull Hall of the Frohnmayer Music Building. Admission is free.
  • Also on Monday, April 21, the Youngblood Brass Band will perform at South Eugene High School at 7:30 p.m. The UO Green Garter Band will also perform as the opening act. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
  • On Wednesday, April 23, the fourth annual “UO Emerging Artist Series” will be held at 8 p.m. in the Beall Concert Hall at the Frohnmayer Music Building. The UO School of Music and Dance will host the event; admission is free.
