COVID-19 UPDATE: Latest news and campus announcements

Here is the current information related to university operations and programs. The latest information is available on the UO coronavirus information website.

NEW:

  • The Lane County COVID-19 Community Alert Level moved from moderate to high based on an increased number of cases in the county. This does not change the operational stance of the University of Oregon.
  • If you’ve got questions about COVID-19 and the fall term, a new Around the O story provides extensive resources and answers to your most frequently asked questions about testing, prevention, and case information.
  • Students and employees who have tested positive or think they have been exposed to COVID-19 are encouraged to review the COVID-19 exposure scenarios and guidance for students and employees and contact the Corona Corps Care Team at 541-346-2292 or coronacorps@uoregon.edu for additional guidance and resources.
  • President Michael Schill and the presidents of the Pac-12 voted to resume football, men’s and women’s basketball, and other winter sports. Practice can begin immediately, and the seasons will start in November. Fans will not be permitted at games this fall, but the conference will revisit that issue in early 2021.

REMINDERS:

  • A second mask distribution for University of Oregon employees is scheduled for September 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Employees who have not already received their two face masks can check in at the Student Recreation Center reception desk.
  • The COVID-19 building status interactive map shows current campus building access and status – open, limited, and restricted. Members of the campus community should be prepared to show their UO ID cards when entering open facilities. UO ID cards are required to gain entry to limited access and restricted buildings.
  • Starting September 27, Zoom will require all meetings to use either a passcode or a waiting room. If neither feature is enabled, Zoom will enable a waiting room for your meeting. If you add a passcode to an existing meeting, you’ll need to share that code with meeting participants.
  • You can reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19 by limiting the number of people with whom you are in close contact. Take the following precautions:
    • Keep groups small and limited to only people you know.
    • Wear masks or cloth face coverings.
    • Remember that exposure is defined as being within six feet of another for 15 minutes.
    • Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer after touching common surfaces.
    • Don’t share drinks, vapes, or utensils.

  • The university continues to work in close coordination with the Oregon Health Authority and our companion institutions and agencies. Additional resources are available from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Oregon Health Authority, and your health care provider.
  • As a reminder, the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outline some general precautions to minimize the spread of respiratory diseases.

The UO is providing biweekly COVID-19 updates, on Mondays and Thursdays. Urgent information will be shared through direct emails.
