COVID-19 UPDATE: Latest news and campus announcements

Here is the current information related to university operations and programs. The latest information is available on the UO Coronavirus webpage and FAQ page.

NEW:

  • The university has approved a new Health Check regulation which outlines that students and employees should conduct a self-check daily and not come to campus if they are experiencing or have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms in the previous 72 hours. Implementation measures for health self-checks are under development.
  • Health officials are reminding everyone that while summer weather is finally here, summer activities should look a little different this year. Protect your health and those around you by limiting the size of gatherings to 10 people or fewer. Try to do as much as possible outside, keep six feet apart, and wear masks or cloth face coverings.
  • Due to the indefinite halt to study abroad programs caused by COVID-19, the UO’s Division of Global Engagement is being forced to reorganize its operations, including a reduction in staffing levels.

REMINDERS:

  • Three University of Oregon students tested positive for COVID-19 on June 22 in Eugene. One additional student is a presumptive positive. All four students are recovering in isolation. Public health officials are conducting contact tracing and monitoring for individuals associated with these positive cases. The University of Oregon is providing information about positive COVID-19 test results for students and employees within the UO community
  • As a reminder, the best way to prevent infection of COVID-19 is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Avoid social engagements and establishments where physical distancing and face covering guidelines are not being followed. Wash your hands often, put at least six feet of distance between yourself and others outside your home, and cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover when around others. And remember, some people without symptoms may still be able to spread the virus
  • President Michael Schill and Provost Patrick Phillips thanked faculty, staff, and GEs for their extraordinary efforts throughout spring term in a message to campus. They encouraged everyone to recharge this summer and reminded colleagues that, for fall term, the Return to Campus webpage will continue to be updated with the latest information.
