Data, technology expert chosen as next chief information officer

Abhijit Pandit, an information technology leader with more than 20 years of experience, has been selected as the next chief information officer for the University of Oregon.

Pandit will oversee the university’s information technology services and infrastructure, providing strategic direction for enterprisewide solutions and initiatives.

“I am thrilled to have Abhijit join us at the University of Oregon,” said Jamie Moffitt, vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. “His expertise in information technology, data and analytics, and digital transformation will be invaluable as the university continues to strive toward operational excellence and continuous improvement.”

Pandit comes to the UO from Oregon Health and Science University, where he served as chief technology officer and chief data officer.

“I am incredibly excited for the opportunity to serve the students, faculty and staff of UO,” Pandit said. “Technology has now become fundamental to our ability to work effectively and efficiently, and I believe by continuing to work collaboratively across the campus, Information Services can further enable, accelerate and amplify the impact that UO has on the community.”

While at OHSU, Pandit led several enterprisewide change initiatives focused on modernizing the institution’s technological infrastructure and meeting emergent business trends such as telehealth services. In addition, he established an Office of Advanced Analytics, which focuses on harnessing the analytical capabilities of the university and supporting OHSU’s data-driven culture.

Pandit holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Pune in Pune, India, a master’s degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and an MBA from the University of Washington in Seattle.

He will start in the new role April 25.
