UPDATED: Duck spirit was in the air at Woodburn's Fiesta Mexicana

For the fifth year, the University of Oregon was a major sponsor of Fiesta Mexicana in Woodburn.

Fiesta Mexicana started in 1964 as a way to celebrate the end of the harvest and to honor the contributions of Hispanic and Latino community members. Since then, Fiesta has grown into the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.

UO students and staff joined the Duck and volunteers from the community for a parade on Saturday, Aug. 8. In addition to the parade, this year’s Fiesta Mexicana featured a soccer tournament, live music, dancing and lucha libre.

The UO ended the weekend Sunday evening by choosing a winner for the "Duck Bucks for Books" prize, which awards $1,000 to be used to purchase textbooks for a future UO student.

Fiesta Mexicana is in its 52nd year. For more information visit http://admissions.uoregon.edu/fiesta.
