EMU to close for almost two weeks in August due to construction

The Erb Memorial Union will be closed to the public for almost two weeks in August while the concrete deck outside the main doors is replaced and waterproofed.

Dates for the closure are Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Friday, Aug. 14.

The closure is part of the ongoing renovation and expansion of the EMU, including an upgrade of the Fishbowl food court. The deck area is immediately outside the Fishbowl, which has been closed since March while renovations take place.

The deck work will generate considerable noise, dust and odors. EMU officials said keeping the building open during the work is problematic because of safety concerns, visitors having trouble finding the few remaining doorways, and noise and disruption that would detract from activities being held inside.

A small number of meetings planned for August will be rescheduled. Employees who continue to work in the building will be directed to alternate doors at the north and south ends of the building.
