EMU to remain closed an additional week while renovations continue

The Erb Memorial Union will remain closed an additional week to give workers more time to complete upgrades to the building’s main entrance.

The EMU, which is in the middle of an extensive renovation and expansion, closed Aug. 5 for what was expected to be two weeks of work on the exterior deck and entrance area. As the work proceeded, it became clear that additional time was needed to complete the job.

The building is now expected to open for limited use on Saturday, Aug. 22. However, much of the lobby, food court and the Fishbowl will remain closed while work in those areas continues.

Access to the UO Card and Key Office will resume a week earlier, on Aug. 17. To reach the card office, go to the double doors on the west side of the building at the base of the Mills International Center, which can be reached from the walkway off 13th Avenue above the amphitheater.

A doorbell by the doors can be used to alert the office and someone will come and provide assistance.

The main entrance will remain closed once the building reopens for limited use Aug. 22. Access will be through the south loading dock area and the Mills Center. Much of the main floor will remain closed, but people will be able to reach the ballroom and other areas on the upper floors.

The Fishbowl and food court areas are expected to begin reopening in mid September. For more information, see the EMU renovation and expansion website.
