Faculty happy hour helps promote diversity

Brews and chews will be happening at the East 19th Street McMenamins for the Faculty of Color & Allies Happy Hour from 4:30-6 p.m. on Thursday, April 21.

According to the UO Center on Diversity and Community interim director Gordon Nagayama Hall, the event’s purpose is to serve as a meet-and-greet platform for UO faculty of color and allies in a social setting, and to also learn about upcoming Division of Equity and Inclusion events.

“The Happy Hour is important because there are relatively few faculty of color at the UO,” Nagayama Hall said. “This event will provide a sense of community for those who might otherwise feel isolated.”

The event’s co-sponsored by a myriad of UO programs, such as the Center for the Study of Women in Society, The School of Journalism and Communication, Lundquist College of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences.

The happy hour will be casual, but a brief introduction for everyone at the event will open the gathering. There is no fee to attend, and all UO faculty are invited.
