A sendoff for retiring Provost Scott Coltrane is set for Wednesday, May 31, and the university community is invited to join in celebrating his eight years of service to the University of Oregon.

The event takes place at 4 p.m. in the Paul Olum Atrium of Willamette Hall. Space is limited, and guests are asked to RSVP by May 22.

In addition to serving as the university’s provost and senior vice president, Coltrane has taken on the roles of dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, interim provost and interim president. He also led efforts to hire four new deans and a vice president for research and innovation, launched the public phase of the university’s most ambitious fundraising campaign, oversaw the completion of a new strategic plan and championed diversity and inclusion.

“The university community owes Scott a tremendous debt of gratitude for all that he has achieved since arriving on campus in 2008,” UO President Michael H. Schill wrote in announcing Coltrane’s retirement plans last year.

“I will very much miss Scott’s wise counsel, his deep appreciation for and understanding of our faculty and all elements of our university, and his grace under pressure,” Schill said. “He is the epitome of what a great provost and academic leader should be in today’s higher education landscape.”
