Jessie Minton, the University of Oregon’s chief information officer and vice provost for information services, is leaving the university to become the vice chancellor of technology and chief information officer position at Washington University in St. Louis.

In her new role, Minton will lead information technology for both the university campus and the medical campus, consisting of two hospitals and a cancer center.

Minton has been with the university since 2017. She is credited with transforming the UO’s information systems and technology strategy to create a more collaborative and cohesive IT community.

“Jessie is a visionary and collaborative leader,” said Patrick Phillips, provost and senior vice president. “She has propelled the university technology system to a new level and created a foundation of excellence that will serve our educational and research mission for many years to come.”

During her tenure, Minton improved the university network, allowing more collaborative research, sharing of big data and connecting campus to peer institutions at 100 gigabyte speeds, which enhanced statewide research and education networking through the launch of Link Oregon.

Some of her other accomplishments include leading Transform IT to create a centrally supported technology ecosystem with broad campus engagement and support; supporting the response to COVID-19 and the transition to full remote through numerous technology programs; and designing and building network and technology strategy for the Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact, as well as other strategic initiatives.

Minton’s last day leading Information Services will be March 4. The university will launch a national search for her replacement and is expected to announce an interim leadership transition plan in the coming weeks.
