A program that introduces student athletes to the world of art and visual expression was featured recently on the CBS Sports Network.

Art of the Athlete, a program run by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, gives student athletes a chance to express themselves off the field in ways that let them communicate their own individuality. The program has been in place for five years and has engaged student athletes from a variety of sports.

Students work in a range of visual media, creating works that become part of a regular exhibit at the museum.

“It may not look like Picasso,” said student athlete Arrion Springs, “but if you make it, you can feel like Picasso.”
