New campus elections scheduled following technology problem

A technology issue that may have damaged the integrity of the elections process for several campus governing bodies has prompted the university to schedule new elections.

The issue affected balloting for the University Senate, standing committees and the Officers of Administration Council. All votes cast in these elections will be discarded, and a new balloting period will open May 25.

A team is working to identify the problem and reprogram the online elections system. All those who voted previously will need to recast their votes once the new balloting window opens, and those who did not vote will have another opportunity to take part in the shared governance process.

The election will close June 8. Results will be posted soon after the polls close.

“The university values its elected representative bodies,” interim UO President Scott Coltrane and Senate President Robert Kyr said in a joint message to campus. “This representation and the election process is a crucial element of effective shared governance. We are taking this step to ensure the integrity of the election process and will publish full results when voting is concluded.”
