New faculty leaders sought for study abroad programs

Faculty members interested in leading a group of students abroad next year are encouraged to attend an upcoming “Leading a Study Abroad Program” workshop.

The workshops cover many aspects on preparation and the planning process, including program development, planning and budgeting, student recruitment, and the responsibilities of an on-site program leader.

Study abroad is an opportunity for faculty members to be a part of an enrichment of student academic life with an immersive experience in another country. Such experiences help students develop the flexibility to adapt quickly and creatively to unexpected situations, hone interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, and develop self-awareness and maturity by adapting to another culture.

The next faculty study abroad will be held Monday, Jan. 28, at 3 p.m. in Room 189, Prince Lucien Campbell Hall. A program proposal template can be found on Teach with GEO page.

Proposal submission deadline for the 2020 summer and fall terms is Feb. 15; for spring 2021 the deadline is Sept. 15.

Also, faculty-led program development grant proposals for use in summer 2019 are due Feb. 15.
