New leader named for campus planning and operations

Jamie Moffitt, vice president for finance and administration, has selected Michael Harwood to lead the university’s campus operations, planning and sustainability efforts. Harwood has 20 years in campus planning and facilities leadership experience.

Moffitt sent the following message to all of the affected offices and units:

Dear colleagues:

I am pleased to announce that Michael Harwood has accepted my offer to serve as our new Associate Vice President (AVP) for Campus Planning and Facilities Management, pending review and approval of necessary search documentation. We anticipate that Michael will assume his new position on July 18th.

Michael will serve as the university’s chief facilities management officer and report to me, the Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer (VPFA). As AVP for Campus Planning and Facilities Management, he will be responsible for a newly created portfolio of departments including Campus Operations, Campus Planning, Design and Construction, and the Office of Sustainability. The portfolio includes about 330 employees and a $45 million annual operating budget.

Michael joins us with over 20 years of leadership in higher education planning, architectural design, real estate development, capital construction and campus operations. Most recently, he served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Centennial Campus Development at North Carolina State University, a research-intensive, 2,090-acre land grant institution with a population of 34,000 students. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis.

I’d also like to thank members of the search committee for their dedication and time.

Please help me welcome Michael to the University of Oregon.
