New UO journalism professor named Kopenhaver Fellow

Laurie Phillips is having a big year.

Not only did she complete her doctoral work at the University of North Carolina and move across the country to join the public relations faculty at the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication, but she was selected as one of the inaugural group of fellows by the Kopenhaver Center.

The 28 fellows were announced recently at the “Women Faculty Moving Forward Workshop,” during the annual Association of Educators in Journalism and Mass Communication Conference in Washington, D.C. The workshop, presented by the Kopenhaver Center and the AEJMC Commission on the Status of Women and the AEJMC Council of Affiliates, advances the careers of women scholars in the field of communication.

“It was truly an honor to be selected,” Phillips said. “I am very much looking forward to the insight from numerous mentors that I will be privy to and sharing my insight with others as well.”

As a Kopenhaver Center fellow, Phillips will have the opportunity to collaborate and connect with her peers and mentors in communications.
