New UO president spends time on campus meeting and greeting

Incoming UO President Michael Schill embraced his new campus with open arms Tuesday and Wednesday, meeting with faculty, students and campus leaders as he prepares to take the wheel July 1.

Schill said he’s already reaching out to campus groups and university supporters. He plans to meet with elected officials this Friday in Salem.

The UO Board of Trustees announced Schill as the university’s new president just one month ago. The current dean and law professor at the University of Chicago will spend the next six weeks working on his transition.

On his visit Tuesday, the incoming president shared ice cream with university workers, had dinner with students and met with faculty. He addressed the University Senate on Wednesday and said he wants to build a strong relationship with faculty.
