NY Times story features UO map of mule deer migration routes

A map created by the UO Graphics Lab has landed in The New York Times.

Science writer James Gorman visited Wyoming to report on a collaborative effort of universities and agencies to document the migration routes and health of the state's mule deer. The story is in the Feb. 3 Science Times section.

The InfoGraphics-produced map represents the work of five UO contributors, who were led by InfoGraphics Lab Director James Meacham. Matthew Kauffman of the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit at the University of Wyoming heads the overall project. Kauffman earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the UO in 1992.

The New York Times story, which includes a video of researchers traveling by helicopter to capture some of the mule deer for health-related information, can be found at "For Mule Deer, an Incredible Journey."

In May 2014, AroundtheO featured a story detailing the UO's contributions.
