Oregon Attorney General to deliver School of Law Commencement

Ellen Rosenblum

Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum is the distinguished speaker for the University of Oregon School of Law commencement on Saturday, May 18. The 2019 commencement ceremony is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Matthew Knight Arena.

The School of Law kicks off the University of Oregon commencement season, which begins in June. Over one hundred Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws degrees are expected to be conferred.

As a proud “double-duck”, Rosenblum received a B.S. from the UO in 1971 and earned her law degree in 1975. She later served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Eugene and Portland as well as an Oregon district, circuit, and court of appeals judge. Rosenblum made history in 2012, when she was elected the first woman to serve as Oregon attorney general.

“We are so proud of our alumna Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum,” Marcilynn A. Burke, Deanand Dave Frohnmayer Chair in Leadership and Law said.“She definitely embodies the positive ‘drive change’ spirit of Oregon Law.”

During her time in office, AG Rosenblum has set priorities on consumer protection and civil rights. She is an avid advocate for Oregon’s children, seniors, immigrants, crime victims and those who are burdened with educational debt.

Because of her service, in 2016, Rosenblum was awarded the John E. Jaqua Distinguished Alumni Awards. The award is given to School of Law alumni who exemplify the highest quality and ethical standards as well as great loyalty to the school. Rosenblum is also a past recipient of the Frohnmayer Award for Public Service, which recognizes a graduate, faculty member, or friend of Oregon Law whose public service brings honor to the school.
